UPDATED 5-12-08

Much of the talk leading up to Saturday's Tournament on Lake Murray was not so much about who would win the tournament as much as how much weight it was going to take just to get a check. All week reports of huge catches of fish were coming from everyone who had the opportunity to go down there. Many, including myself, felt like twenty plus pounds was not out of the question.

As is usually the case in such situations, on the day it matters the most the bite was not only smaller than anticipated but was also tougher than expected. At least for the first time this season, the tournament day weather was not the story.

The story of this tournament was the second career win(with FLTT)for the team of Al Fortner and Kevin Fulmer who not only captured the first place prize of $1000.00 but also took home an additional $1000.00 bonus in the TRITON GOLD program. Kevin and Al's weight of 22.70 pounds was caught throwing either a Blue Sammy or a Fluke in three to eight feet of water along the middle section of the lake. Congratulations to Al and Kevin on the win which jumped them to twenty-fifth in points with 463.

Scoring their highest finish with Five Lakes Tournament Trail, was the team of Bradley Gunter and Dan Montgomery with a weight of 20.90 pounds. Dan and Bradley ran points all day long throwing either a Pencil Popper or a Green Pumpkin Worm on a Shakeyhead Jig. They also had the big fish of the day that weighed 5.83 pounds. Bradley and Dan moved to twenty-fourth in points with 471.

Finishing third, with 19.50 pounds, was the 2007 Tour Champions, Aaron Hastings and Stan Gunter. Stan and Aaron's fish were caught throwing either a Brown Jig or a Green Worm on a Shakeyhead in less than six feet of water. They also had the second biggest fish of the day weighing 5.07 pounds. Aaron and Stan are second in points with 564.

Kerry Smith and Roger Hughes finished in fourth place with a weight of 19.38 pounds caught on a Pearl colored Fluke or a Jig. They were fishing down on the lower end of the lake. Roger and Kerry are fourth in points with 546.

Scoring their third top ten of the season was the team of Paul O'Dell and Tony McAlister with a weight of 16.86 pounds. Tony and Paul used a White Top Water Worm thrown along main lake points to catch their fish. They to, were fishing the lower end of the lake. They are fourth in points with 546.

Sixth place went to the team of Jeff Hanley and Fred Griffin with a limit weighing 16.52 pounds. Fred and Jeff's fish were all caught on a Yellow Top Water Worm in less than three feet of water. They were fishing the upper end of the lake. Jeff and Fred are fifteenth in points with 507.

Also scoring their highest finish with FLTT in seventh place, was the team of Brandon Temples and Dennis Beauford. Their limit, weighing 15.44 pounds, was caught on either a Chrome Colored Spook or a White Fluke thrown in five feet of water. They were fishing primarily in the middle section of the lake. Brandon and Dennis are fiftieth in points with 371.

Another team using a White Fluke to catch their fish was the team of Dennis Henderson and Bennie Vaughn who brought in 15.06 pounds. Bennie and Dennis were also using a Green Pumpkin Worm on a Carolina Rig in less than five feet of water fishing the upper portion of the lake. They are eighth in points with 533.

Eddie Burgess and Bill Cain finished in ninth place with only five fish that weighed 15.02 pounds. Eddie and Bill's fish were all caught on a White Fluke in less than five feet of water down on the lower end of the lake. Bill and Eddie are seventieth in points with 187.

Tenth place, with 14.84 pounds, went to the team of Gary McClain and Brad O'Dell. Brad and Gary caught their fish throwing either a White or Pink Topwater Worm in three to six feet of water. They were fishing in Crystal Lake. They are third in points with 547.

Many of you may not know Club Member Bob Stover suffered a heart attack several weeks back and was in CCU for several days.

The last report I got was that he was getting better and by now is hopefully at home.

We would like to wish Bob the best and hope to see him back on the water soon.
